Bake Sale

Bake Sale

Project Type: Service

Project Cost: $0

Project Attendance: Small (1-10), Medium (11-25)

Description

Bake sales are a great way to get several members of the chapter involved in different ways, from advertising to baking to running the booth. Members typically cover the cost of the baked goods themselves, and the profits are donated to a charity of the members’ choosing, although this could also be used as a fundraiser for the chapter.

Materials

  • Flyers for advertising (can be digital)
  • Baked goods

Cost Breakdown

  • Flyers ($0 if digital)
  • Baked goods ($0 if members make themselves)

Preparation & Administration

  • Pick a time and location for your bake sale. Make sure it is in an area where your campus permits the sale of items.
  • Have members of the chapter sign up for shifts to run the booth. We usually have our booth for 3 hours with at least two volunteers present per hour.
  • Have members sign up to bring baked goods on the day of the event. We’ve found that having 5+ options is good, including a variety of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and breads. Encourage members to bring batches in dozens.
  • Create flyers and promote around campus, on your chapter’s Instagram, etc.
  • On the day of the sale, make sure each item’s cost is labeled. It is also recommended that you accept cash as well as other methods, such as Venmo.

Additional Notes & Resources

  • Remember to check your campus’ rules regarding selling and fundraising.
  • Include a list of ingredients with the baked items.
  • Items typically sell the best for $1-$3 each, with an average profit of $100 per sale.
