Tau Beta Pi offers a number of scholarships, fellowships, and awards to its members as one of its benefits.


National Scholarships

TBP Member Fellowships

Up to 30 Fellowships in the amount of $10,000 will be awarded. Fellows may enroll in graduate programs in any field which enables them to contribute to the engineering profession. More information on fellowships can be found here and applications can be found here.

Fellowship applications may only be requested between December 12, 2023 and February 1, 2024 ET.

TBP Member Scholarships

The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarship Program was established in 1998 with five awards named in honor of former Emeritus R.H. Nagel. Awards have been made to more than 2,798 Scholars for their senior year of engineering study. More information on scholarships can be found here and applications can be found here.

Scholarship Applications may only be requested between February 2, 2024 and April 1, 2024 ET.

Harold and Ruth Hayward Scholarships

Through the generosity of Ruth and Harold Hayward, the College of Engineering and Tau Beta Pi are able to offer several $3000/year scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year. Current sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. High preference will be given to TBP members. If awarded for the junior year, the scholarship can be renewed for the senior year. Hayward scholarships are given to outstanding engineering students on the basis of academic achievement, service, leadership, and initiative. The application can be obtained here under “General Scholarships”.

The next application period opens at February 2024.

Outstanding Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduate Awards

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge students who have been active in various capacities at the university. The award is given by the Illinois Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and encourages its members to be involved in service and liberal culture activities. Current sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students are eligible. The award carries a monetary award of $250. One award per category will be given each semester.

Outstanding Initiate Award

The Outstanding Initiate Award is (2) $500 award given out each semester. The purpose of the following award is to acknowledge our initiates in their capacity to affect change at the university and within Tau Beta Pi. This award stresses heavily excellence in engineering, in character, in the liberal arts, and especially participation in our chapter.

Outstanding Distinguished Active Member Awards

The Outstanding Distinguished Active Member Awards are (3) $500 awards given out each semester. Only Tau Beta Pi distinguished active members are eligible. The purpose of the following award is to acknowledge our members in their capacity to affect change at the university and within Tau Beta Pi. This award stresses heavily excellence in engineering, in character, in the liberal arts, and especially participation in our chapter.
